Terms of Service
These terms govern your use of Keystody. Please read section 2 carefully — it explains what Keystody does and, just as importantly, what it cannot do.

2. What Keystody is, and what it is not
Keystody is a hosted software service for setting up and managing Bitcoin multisignature wallets. It helps you create a 2-of-3 multisig vault, verify your keys, keep track of the health of your setup, plan for recovery and inheritance, and prepare transactions for you to sign.
Keystody is not a custodian. You hold all three private keys yourself, on your own hardware wallets. We never receive, generate, store or have access to your private keys, seed phrases, or BIP39 passphrases. We cannot sign transactions. We cannot move your funds. We could not do so even if we were compelled to, because we do not possess the means to.
To provide the service, we do store wallet metadata on our infrastructure: extended public keys (xpubs), output descriptors, derivation paths, master fingerprints and address indexes. This data lets us show your balances and construct unsigned transactions. It cannot be used to spend your Bitcoin. We encrypt it at rest and treat it as sensitive financial information — see our Privacy Policy.
When you send Bitcoin, Keystody constructs an unsigned transaction. You review and sign it on your own hardware device. We then relay the transaction you have already signed to the Bitcoin network. We cannot alter a signed transaction, and if we did not relay it you could submit it yourself through any Bitcoin node.
Keystody does not operate a trading platform, does not exchange crypto-assets for funds or for other crypto-assets, does not receive, transmit or execute orders, and does not provide investment advice or portfolio management. We are not authorised as a crypto-asset service provider and we do not describe ourselves as MiCA-authorised or MiCA-compliant. Nothing on this site or in the product is financial, tax or legal advice.
3. Your responsibilities
Because you hold the keys, you carry responsibilities that we cannot carry for you:
- Keeping your private keys, seed phrases and hardware wallets secure, backed up, and known to the people who will need them.
- Storing your wallet descriptor and recovery information somewhere you and your heirs can reach. Seed phrases alone are not sufficient to recover a multisig wallet.
- Verifying receive addresses on your own hardware device before sending funds to them.
- Checking transaction details on your hardware device before signing. What appears on the device screen is authoritative.
- Keeping your account credentials confidential.
If you lose access to enough of your keys, your Bitcoin is permanently unrecoverable. We have no backdoor, no master key and no recovery mechanism. This is a deliberate property of self-custody, not a limitation we can waive.
4. Your account
You must be at least 18 and legally able to enter into a contract. You are responsible for the accuracy of the information you give us and for everything that happens under your account. Tell us promptly if you suspect unauthorised access.
Where you invite other people to a vault — co-signers, family members, heirs, or colleagues in an organisation — you are responsible for who you invite and what permissions you grant them.
5. Subscriptions and payment
Paid plans are billed in advance through our payment processor, Stripe. Current plans and prices are shown on our pricing page. Prices are in euros and include VAT where applicable.
Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled. You can cancel at any time from your account settings — there is no notice window you have to hit, and an annual plan never rolls into another fixed twelve-month commitment. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the period you have already paid for.
If a payment fails or a subscription lapses, we will not delete your vault data or prevent you from exporting your wallet descriptor and recovery information. Your ability to recover your own Bitcoin never depends on an active subscription.
We may change prices. We will give you at least 30 days’ notice by email before a change affects your renewal, and you may cancel before it takes effect.
6. Right of withdrawal
If you are a consumer in the EU, you have 14 days from the day your subscription is concluded to withdraw from it without giving a reason. Keystody is a digital service supplied over time rather than a one-off delivery, so a monthly or annual subscription is never fully performed within those 14 days — you keep the right for the whole period.
When you subscribe, we ask you to expressly request that we start providing the service immediately rather than waiting out the 14 days. That request does not take away your right to withdraw. What it means is that if you do withdraw partway through, you pay a proportionate amount for the part of the period you actually had access to, and we refund the rest. If you do not make that request, you pay nothing for a period you withdraw from.
To withdraw, use the withdrawal function in your account settings, which is available throughout the withdrawal period, or email us at info@keystody.com with a clear statement to that effect. Either is sufficient. We will acknowledge receipt without undue delay and refund what is due within 14 days of being informed.
7. Availability and changes to the service
We work to keep Keystody available, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted access. We may need to suspend the service for maintenance, security or reasons outside our control.
Keystody being unavailable does not put your Bitcoin at risk. Your funds live on the Bitcoin network and are controlled by your keys. With your descriptor and your keys you can recover and spend your Bitcoin using third-party wallet software, without us.
We may add, change or remove features. If we make a change that materially reduces the service, we will tell you in advance where we reasonably can.
8. Acceptable use
Do not use Keystody for anything unlawful, do not attempt to gain unauthorised access to our systems or to other users’ data, do not interfere with the operation of the service, and do not attempt to reverse engineer it except to the extent the law expressly permits.
9. Disclaimers
Bitcoin is volatile and self-custody carries real risk. Keystody helps you follow good practice; it cannot eliminate the consequences of lost keys, forgotten passphrases, hardware failure, user error, or your own decisions about who holds what.
Except where the law says otherwise, the service is provided “as is”. We do not warrant that it will be error-free or that it will meet every requirement you have.
10. Liability
Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited under Dutch law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for intentional misconduct or gross negligence.
Subject to that, our total liability to you in connection with the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim.
We are not liable for loss of Bitcoin resulting from your loss of keys or recovery information, from transactions you authorised and signed, from your decisions about key distribution, or from the behaviour of the Bitcoin network itself.
11. Ending the agreement
You may stop using Keystody and close your account at any time. Before you do, export your wallet descriptor and recovery information — you will need it to recover your Bitcoin without us.
We may suspend or end your access if you materially breach these terms, if required by law, or if we discontinue the service. Other than for serious breach, we will give you reasonable notice and an opportunity to export your data.
12. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by Dutch law. Disputes go to the competent court in the Netherlands. If you are a consumer, this does not deprive you of the protection of mandatory rules of the country where you live, and you may also use the European Commission’s online dispute resolution platform.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. If a change materially affects your rights we will give you at least 30 days’ notice by email. Continuing to use Keystody after a change takes effect means you accept the updated terms; if you do not, you may cancel.
